Garage Storage Racks for Better Garage Organization
I doubt that anybody would disagree with the fact that garages were intended for motor vehicles. The residential garage is no exception to that simple rule. Yet, in America today, a large percentage of single car or 2 car garages have no space left for any car at all. Such is the scope of the use of garages as dumping grounds for all sorts of household items, that the owners cannot find space to store elsewhere.
In fact, getting to grips with garage storage can make a big impact on tidiness around the home. The correct use of garage storage racks of all types can not only relieve space pressures in the garage itself, but also perhaps in the home and, even more likely, in the backyard shed.
How, you might ask, should you go about getting your car back in its rightful home? There is no set way, of course, but however grim a prospect it might be, it can be done, and choosing a nice sunny day to attack the problem is a good starting point. If you have family at home, try to get them involved too.
It might well be that you cannot remember what it was like to have a car, or even 2 cars, in the garage. So, to assess your problem, why not clear the floor of everything by moving it outside, and then put the car or cars back where they belong: inside. Now, take a good look at what you have outside. Is there anything you don’t really need or want? Then dump it. What remains is what you need to get back in the garage, only far better organized than before, around the car.
What many people do not fully appreciate is the space above the car. Imagine storing many of those things you put outside in overhead garage racking. If you can imagine it, then you can achieve it, with the correct use of overhead storage. There are some very effective modern designs for utilizing the overhead space for storing things. This is often free space, and you may perhaps remove the need for buying a backyard shed in the process.
Overhead racking does come at a cost, but can be very cost effective too. Take a good look around at what is available, match with your budget, and imagine what remnant of a storage problem you may still have. Hopefully, that can be dealt with through, for example, wall racking (chrome shelving looks neat and is wipe clean), bike hoists, fishing rod ceiling racks, and sundry other racking solutions.
Implement all the options you choose, and then if you still cannot easily fit the car in, it is time to get the backyard shed sorted out!
